“The platforms cut a 12% commission on each trip, but do not take any responsibility for the payment of the outstanding amount. The drivers are asked to pursue customers for payment. I earns around Rs 3,000 a week and sometimes Rs 5,000 – but it’s not enough,” he tells TOI.

Efforts to enact a law in Rajasthan’s security were the first such initiative in the country to promise social and financial security for the estimated five lakh employees, running the state’s Rs 25,000 crore gig economy.

The BJP government led by Bhajan Lal Sharma announced an allocation of Rs 350 crore in this year’s state budget and an increase of Rs 100 crore in last year’s outlay, in the development fund of Gig and Unorganized Workers. It is not clear when the corpus will be made, or how the benefits will reach the desired goals.
Home Minister Amit Shah’s announcement of a cooperative structure for 5 million app-based drivers has rejected a glimpse of Asha.
The model allows registration of two-wheelers, taxis, rickshaws, and four-wheelers, aimed at democratic management and equitable profit distribution among the drivers.

We are ready to cooperate for a true option.”
26 -year -old Jaipur taxi driver Suresh Prajapati, waiting for the workers of that day, should not depend on their platforms. “If driving is the only source of your income, it will not be enough to rely on Ola or Uber. I end up by creating the base of my individual customers. I have registered with the e-range portal of the center in the hope that there will be some benefits someday.”
