29 -year -old Tunisian tennis star and two -time Wimbledon Finalist Oons Jabur announced on July 17 that she has been taking indefinite break from tennis to focus on her goodness, citing injuries and emotional stress over the last two years.The announcement follows Wimbledon to exit her emotional first round, where she was forced to get hurt against Victoria Tomova.“Over the last two years, I am pushing myself so hard, fighting through injuries and facing many other challenges,” Jabur has written on X.Jabeur’s decision comes after reaching the Wimbledon finals in 2022 and 2023, where she lost to Elena Ribkina and Market Wondrasova respectively. She also reached the 2022 US Open final.
“Tennis is such a beautiful game,” she said. “But now, I think it’s time to withdraw a step and finally put itself first: to breathe, to heal, and just to find the joy of living again.”The Tunisian player made history to reach a Grand Slam singles final as the first Arab and African women and achieved a career-high number 2 rank in WTA in 2022.She is known for her creative sports style, which features drop shots and courageous angles, as well as her humility and humor in court.“Even when I am away from court, I will be close and connected in different ways, and share this journey with all of you.”Jabur assured his supporters that this break is temporary, not permanent.“Thanks to all my fans for understanding.
