Yamunanagar: In a historic verdict, a Yamunagar court sentenced a man to death for the kidnapping, rape and murder of a 6 -year -old girl, after which it is considered the first guilty under India’s new. His body was later discovered in nearby fields that night where he was killed. The investigation revealed that the accused, known as Rajesh, kidnapped the child, took him to the fields, raped her, and then murdered him to cover his crime. The cruelty of the Act left the community in shock and mourning.Rajesh was arrested due to Swift police action, when two villagers saw her taking the girl towards the fields, and another witness saw her returning alone. When encountered, it was found that the accused had returned home to change clothes before escaping. The police soon caught him.The case was heard by POCSO (safety of children from sexual offenses) by Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Ranjana Aggarwal. The prosecution led by District Attorney Gurdev Tandon presented a watertite case, which was surrounded by the testimony of 18 witnesses. Seriously, two eyewitnesses confirmed the victim seeing the accused, while another saw him leaving the crime site. Forensic evidence further sealed the case, in which DNA matching samples of the accused were found at the scene.In sentenced to death, the court emphasized the severity of the crime and the destructive effect on the victim’s family and society. Legal experts noted that this could be the first example of the death penalty under the POCSO Act within the BNS structure, a new legal code aimed at strengthening India’s criminal justice system.The victim’s family expressed relief and gratitude for the verdict, saying, “The court has punished the accused he deserves. We have got justice for our daughter.” The ruling has been stated as an important step in preventing crimes against children and strengthening public belief in the judicial process.
