Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khwaja Asif It has been threatened that his country will target any structure built by India on the Indus River if it goes against the Indus Water Treaty (IWT), which New Delhi recently suspended after the Pahalgam terror attack on 22 April.
Speaking on a program of Pakistan news channel Live news On Friday, Asif said, “Surely, if they (India) try to create any kind of structure, we will strike it.”
He said that any construction on the Indus River would be seen as “Indian aggression” towards Pakistan.
“Aggression is not only about firing cannons or bullets; it has many faces. One of those faces is [blocking or diverting water]Which can lead to death due to hunger and thirst, “he said.
Asif also said, “If they make any architectural efforts, Pakistan will destroy that structure.
“But for now, we are available on the forums starting from IWT. [Indus Waters Treaty]We will chase the matter. ,
Asif said that it comes a few days later that the possibility of conflict with India was increasing with the passage of time despite efforts by various countries to reduce tension between the two neighbors.
“Sambhavna (of conflict) is growing with the passage of time; they are not decreasing. However, many countries are trying to stop the situation,” he said.
Earlier, on 24 April, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the people behind the Pahalgam terror attack will be punished.
In a meeting with senior defense officials on 29 April, Modi said that the armed forces have “complete operational freedom” of how, and where to respond to the attack, the news agency PTI quoted government sources.
