The Trump administration has blocked the Harvard funding of the Arab-dollar as the White House.

The Trump administration has announced that Harvard University will be prevented from receiving any new federal research grant unless it complies with a set of demands set by the White House. The move extends a month of one month between administration and IV League Institution, with allegations that Harvard has failed its responsibilities about antisemiatiism, educational standards and campus management.
In a letter to Harvard President Elon Garber, Education Secretary Linda McMahon accused the university of “frequent violations of its legal duties” and announced that the institution would no longer be eligible for publicly funded research. “Harvard has made fun of the country’s higher education system,” McMahon wrote citing school protests, foreign students entry and diversity initiative as key concerns.
The action does not affect student financial assistance or federal loan programs, but this research can affect more than $ 1 billion annually in funding. The administration had already frozen $ 2.2 billion in the already ongoing multi-year-old grants.

Federal pressure mounts on campus policy and free speech

The administration is demanding extensive changes from Harvard, including diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, strict control over protests, compulsory control, compulsory qualification-based admissions and hiring and increasing approach between the faculty. Additionally, the White House University is pressurizing the University to review its international student program and reports any foreign student, in which the code of conduct found has been violated or expressed anti -American spirit.
A senior official said Harvard should demonstrate “responsible management” and enter into conversation with federal agencies to resolve the ongoing investigation, including several civil rights inquiries in early 2025. The administration has threatened to cancel Harvard’s tax-free situation and block it by hosting foreign students until its demands are met.
Garber has refused to comply with, stating that “no government – despite which party is in power – should determine what private universities can teach, which they can accept and hire, and which areas they can check.” Harvard has filed a lawsuit, in which the funding freeze has been “arbitrary and frugal”, and violated the first amendment rights of the university.
Despite its $ 53 billion settlement, Federal Funding is more than 10% of Harvard’s annual revenue. The measures of the Trump administration come amid a wide push to reopen higher education institutions, accusing them of ideological bias and inadequate protection of Jewish students.
The conversation is possible, but unless the Harvard agrees with the conditions of the administration, it faces exclusion from new federal research opportunities.

Trump vs Harvard

The quarrel between the Harvard University and the Trump administration has intensified since January 2025, when President Trump signed an executive order targeting antisementism on college premises. The Department of Justice and Education followed the rapid investigation, meetings and threats of funding. In March, Harvard was officially placed under the review, with the federal grant placed at stake with the Arabs.
By April, the administration demanded extensive changes, including closure of DEI programs and improving entry and foreign student policies. Harvard refused, called the demands unconstitutional. As the tension increased, the administration freeze $ 2.2 billion in funding and disqualified the university for new grants.
On 6 May, all research financing was stopped, with education secretary Linda McMahon accused Harvard of failing to address antisementism and maintaining educational standards. The university has responded with legal action, claiming the government’s iniquity and a violation of its freedom. Deadlock is now an important moment in the National Culture War.
