‘All iPhones for us in India and Apple to produce all iphones’: Jyotiraditya Scindia picked India as a good investment destination

Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Tuesday that investment in India today is a smart economic step for all original equipment manufacturers. Speaking at the India Telecom event, he pointed to Apple as an example, highlighting the US Tech giant’s decision to manufacture most iPhones sold from the US.
The minister said, “Apple has decided to produce and produce all its mobile phones in India in the coming years.” Scindia also emphasized that such investments in India are not only inspired by goodwill, but also financially sound for every OEM.
He further said that while investing in India, “You are choosing strength, you are choosing credibility, you are choosing originality.”
During Apple’s recent earnings call, CEO Tim Cook announced that most of the iPhones sold in the US in the June quarter would be sour from India. Meanwhile, China will continue to manufacture most equipment for other global markets, as the company struggles with uncertainty around tax tariffs.
Minister of State for Telecommunications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani also noted India’s change, from a major importer of mobile phones to a major manufacturer and exporter in 2014. Back in 2014, India produced 60 million mobile phones and imported 21 million units. By 2024, production had increased to 33 million units, with exports to 5 crore.
He highlighted the growing contribution to India’s global supply chain, saying that 15% of the world’s iPhones are now created in India. According to the Marketing Research firm IDC, Apple sent 23.21 crore iPhones globally.
Pemmani appreciated the progress in India’s Semiconductor Mission, which is important for the establishment of the country as a global center for electronics, system design and manufacturing. The development of semiconductor building plants within India was described as a milestone in achieving technical self -reliance.
