New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited on Tuesday Adampur airbase In Punjab, where he interacted with Indian Air Force personnel. The journey took place a few days after the launch of Operation Sindoor.PM Modi described his meeting with the jawan as a “special experience” and expressed deep gratitude for the armed forces on behalf of all Indians for his service for the nation.Adampur Airbase Operation was actively involved in vermilion and was one of the major military places targeted by the Pakistani Army last Wednesday.Adampur is the second largest airbase in India after Hindon Air Force Station. It’s malicious S -400 air defense systemAlso known as “Sudarshan Chakra”, and serves as an operational basis for MiG -29 Jets,During a press briefing on Saturday, Wing Commander Vacumika Singh dismissed claims of destroying Pakistan’s S400 air defense system, called it part of a malicious misconception campaign by Pakistan and confirmed that all such claims were fake.The Air Force Station Adampur began as a small airstrip during World War II, which was located near Adampur on the Jalandhar-Hoshiyarpur highway.It was officially established on March 16, 1950 as the number 305 wing, and later resumed in 1956 as the number 8 wing.The airbase played an important role in the 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pakistan wars and has been home to MIG-29 fighter jets for many years. It also supported operations during the 1999 Kargil conflict, when Fighter Jets of Edampur, including Mirage from No. 7 Squadron, attacked Tiger Hill, Muntho Dhalho and tooling.To support regional air connectivity, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) constructed a civil airport adjacent to the airbase in Kandola village at a cost of Rs 18 crore.The Center approved the project in July 2015 after site inspection and approval from the Indian Air Force.Commercial flights began on 1 May 2018, when SpiceJet started services from a temporary terminal under the Udaan Regional Connectivity Scheme.
