New Delhi: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) criticized Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday for his recent comments Tulbul Navigation Project And Indus Waters Treaty (IWT). The party said that such comments could affect the “delicate” peace and ceasefire along the Line of Control (LOC). “Omar Abdullah’s comment calls for the Tulbal Navigation Project and the control of water flow on the border is not only sick, but is deeply irresponsible. In a moment when peace is critical and the ceasefire is catching hard, such provocation only works to incite stress,” PDP said in an official statement. The PDP also mentioned the 2002 proposal on IWT in Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council. It said, “Sankalp was transferred by a NC MLC, not PDP. It was completely passed because the National Conference had a majority in the Upper House.” This reaction recently made an exchange between Omar Abdullah and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. The two leaders commented on the potential resumption of the Tulbul Navigation Project after suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. This argument began when Abdullah posted to resume construction at Tulbal Navigation Barrage in Wular Lake on Thursday. He wrote, “The Wular Lake in North Kashmir. The video you have seen in the video are Tulbal Navigation Barrage. It was launched in the early 1980s, but was released under the pressure of Pakistan, in which IWT has been temporarily suspended, citing the Indus Water Treaty, if we will be surprised about it.” Mufti shared Abdullah’s position and replied, “At a time when the two countries have stepped back from the verge of war – once again with Jammu and Kashmir paying the highest price through innocent life, destruction and loss of suffering – such as stimulating statements are deeply irresponsible.”Meanwhile, in its official statement, the PDP described Abdullah’s comments as “dangerous and short -sighted” on IWT. It states that such comments can increase stress and can harm people especially in border areas. “Our situation is clear: We continue to demand appropriate compensation under the Treaty of Jammu and Kashmir, but the IWT should not be made on the pretext of war rhetoric,” said the PDP. The party also said, “Both countries have been pushed closely for further confrontation only for further confrontation. People advocating such posts are reducing the stability of our region, which is most important, which is most important, which is most important, which is most important.
