VAT Savitri is one of the most prominent Hindu festivals celebrated by Hindu married women. They worship the banyan tree on this auspicious day for the health and welfare of her husband. They recite the story of Savitri and Satyavan and keep a harsh fast. Amavasya Tithi and Purnima Tithi are two occasions when Vat Savitri fast is celebrated. Hindu women in Maharashtra and North India follow the fast on the full moon date and Amavasya Tithi respectively.Trinity God (Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Brahma) is believed to be inhabited in a banyan tree, which is considered the most sacred and nourished tree in Hinduism. According to Hindu scriptures, Satyavan had a short time in lifetime, but married a young woman named Savitri. Once on the day, Satyavan was working in the forest, when Yamraj, the ruler of death, arrived to take his life. Savitri eventually discovered her husband’s death and came to Yamraj. She started chasing her and pleaded with Yamraj to return her husband’s life, but she refused. She was asked to return by Yamraj but she did not return and follow her.After that, Yamraj sought three blessings from him, then he first sought his father -in -law’s vision; Second, his father -in -law’s lost state; And third, the opportunity to become a mother for 100 sons.Yamraj gave him all three blessings before departing. Savitri was still following her and seeing her, Yamraj said that she has accepted all her wishes, but why was she still following her? Savitri replied that if she did not kill her husband, she could not have 100 sons. Yamraj gave back the life of Satyavan after accepting his defeat.

1. As soon as you get up, take a holy bath.2. Clean the house and worship room as well. 3. Prepare Bhog Prasad specially – Malpua, Pudi and Semolina Halwa.4. They traditionally wear suits and clothes in sarees.5. Women use traditional jewelry to beautify themselves.6. They are advised to take flowers, turmeric, kumkum, kalash filled with water, and Kakka soot (white holy raw thread).,8. Offer sweets and light an earthen lamp with desi ghee and sunlight rods.9. Pray for your husband’s health and take the blessings of Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma.10. After coming back home, give offerings (clothes and south) to your in -laws to touch your feet and seek blessings.
