‘They say that they will kill PM Modi’s politics on G7’: Canadian journalist flag Khalistani extremism; Free speech is accused of misuse

A Canadian investigative journalist raised serious concerns about the presence and activities of Khalistani extremists in Canada, exposing the increasing dangers against the Indian establishment from the Canadian earth. It comes a few days before the G7 summit, which is to be hosted by Great White North.Speaking to the ANI news agency, Mocha Bezirgan said that during a rally in Vancouver, he was attacked by supporters from Khalistan, which was a few hours after a warning of extremism targeting Indian leaders. “It happened just two hours ago and I am still moving,” Bezirgan told Annie over the phone. “He acted like thugs – crowds on me, grabbing my phone, trying to stop me recording.”Bezirgan, known for covering Khalistan -related activities in North America, was reported from a pro -Khalistan demonstration when he said he was physically facing. In a post on X, he said: “I am surrounded by a group of Khalistanis who grabbed my phone with my hand and threatened me. Naturally I am a little shaken, but not scared.”Calling the incident as “Gagri”, Bezirgan said the attack was a direct result of his independent editorial work. He said that this was not a separate case. Referring to an incident before March 2024, he wrote, “Today’s thug was not the first time.”Bezirgan’s comments are amid growing stress between India and Canada, especially against extremist groups operated from Canada’s soil more than the alleged inactivity of Ottawa. He also claimed that the Khalistani movement is largely performed by Sikhs by justice (SFJ) and the World Sikh organizations receive support from political organizations, which they described as providing a political cover in Canada. He said, “This is a movement headed by Sikhs for justice. They gather people to build a crowd from local gurdwaras,” he said. “But there are big political organizations like World Sikh organizations located in Canada, which has a disturbed history. His officials include the current and former MPs and ministers, who have spread influence in Canadian institutions. ,He expressed concern over the reluctance of Canadian politicians to condemn such extremist groups. “Orthodox leader Pierre Polevere, NDP, and some liberal MPs recently participated in a city kirtan in Surrey, BC, with important Khalistani influence. He shared a platform with Santakh Singh Kelha, who was a convict Sikh Canadian, who hatched a conspiracy to bomb an airplane.”The journalist condemned that he called the pride of violence by those who have Khalistan sympathy. “He is celebrating Indira Gandhi’s killers and is openly saying that he will kill and kill the Prime Minister of India, Modi’s politics in G7,” he told ANI. “He says,” We are descendants of Indira Gandhi’s killers, “and glorify these acts of violence.”He also expressed concern over media attention and lack of accountability within Canada. “It’s disturbing that the Canadian politicians continue to join with such extremists, despite their violent history and inflammatory rhetoric,” he said. “As a citizen, I hope my representatives will distance from extremists and people with violent past.”For the upcoming G7 Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently received an invitation from Canada.Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney defended the move, citing India’s position, the world’s “fifth largest economy” and a prominent player in the global supply chains.Although PM Modi’s travel plans are yet to be finalized, he is expected to reach Alberta on time for the G7 outreach session on 17 June.Meanwhile, there are prolonged bilateral relations in India’s concerns over Khalistani extremism working with Canadian soil. With an increase in the top office of Mark Carney after Trudeau, there was a reset expectations in the relationship, but tension seems to remain.
