An oil and natural gas corporation (ONGC) in Assam’s Shivasagar district flowed uncontrollably for the second day on crude. On Friday, officials confirmed that there was no injury, and emergency protocols are in force. The incident occurred well in the number RDS 147A, which was operated by the ONGC private firm SK Petro services in the Rudrasagar oil field in Bhatiapar. The gas leak began during a servicing operation on Thursday, including zone transfer perforation in the passive crude well. An ONGC official told PTI, “The situation remains the same as yesterday. The well has not yet caught fire and no one has been injured in the incident. All emergency services have been suppressed in the area.”The state -run Maharatna Company, ONGC said in a statement, “On finding, ONGC immediately activated the standard security protocol. The site was immediately secured, and an emergency response team led by the asset manager reached the place without any delay.”“The situation is now completely under control.” However, later in the day another statement confirmed that the wells continue to release gas and efforts are underway to bring it under control. “ONGC’s crisis management team is at work, for laying the equipment required to bring the wells to control. The required fluids for subdeen operation are prepared and the next step in the operation is expected to start from Debreak tomorrow,” it is said. Access to the site has been limited to authorized personnel due to continuous risk of gas in the area. While the wells are undergoing a murder operation, nearby residents have expressed the possibility of a possible explosion and some temporarily left their homes. An ONGC official said it was an old crude that was not in production. During a logging perforation, the gas suddenly started coming out uncontrollably, causing a shock. , The incident shook the memories of the devastating rebellion blowout in 2020, when an oil well in Tinsukia district of Assam lashed out for 173 days and caught fire, killing three people and injured several others. ONGC said it was committed to security and environmental responsibility. The company said, “It is our extremely priority to ensure the safety of our personnel and surrounding areas.” A complete investigation is underway to determine the cause of the blowout.
