Mumbai: The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) has directed all insured to expedite the disposal of claims related to the crash related to Air India Flight 171 in Ahmedabad on June 12. The toll now stands on 241 passengers and 33 others, including the ground. In a circular released on Friday, Idardi said that since foreign medical insurance was mandatory for the London-bound flight, insurers should ensure that no claim is delayed or denied due to procedural formalities. The regulator advised the insurers to rely on the official lists of the deceased and FIRS or post -mortem reports such as Govt are available. Many life insurers have said that they will solve the claims of life without emphasizing the death certificate. Buildings, including the BJ Medical College Hostel, suffered a collateral damage due to the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner accident. Idardi asked life and general insurance councils to install a joint aid desk in the hospital, where many victims are being treated, to assist in claims of life and health policy. The insurers have been asked to coordinate with the joint cell and appoint senior level nodal officers to ensure quick settlements.Idardi directed the insurers to start submitting their weekly reports from 16 June and asked the two councils to publish the insurer-wise claim settlement data on their websites. “This is a moment that says for compassion, accountability and extreme efficiency in supporting the affected families,” the regulator said.
