Amit Shah reviews preparations for 16th census

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday reviewed the preparations for the 16th census of India, which will be held in 2027 with the caste included for the first time. With the official notification to be published in the Gazette on Monday, practice will be done in two stages using a digital tool.According to an official statement, the reference date of the census will be for most parts of the country on March 1, 2027, while for some areas of snow-bound areas such as Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, it will be October 1, 2026.The census will be held in two stages:

  • Husselisting Operation (HLO): Housing status, data on domestic assets and facilities.
  • Population Census (PE): Cultural information of detailed demographic, socio-economic and individuals.

For the first time, the census will be completely digital, with data collected through the mobile app. Citizens will also have the option of self-reversing. To manage the operation on a large scale, the government will deploy about 34 lakh counters and supervisors with 1.3 lakh census officials.Shah held a high -level meeting with Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Registrar General and Census Commissioner Mritunjay Kumar Narayan and other senior officials to assess logistics and readiness for national practice on a large scale.This will be the 16th census of India and held after independence in the 8th, 16-year gap-Akhiri in 2011. The Dickdle 2021 census was delayed due to Kovid -19 epidemic.Officials assured that strict data security protocol would be in the entire process, from collection to broadcasting and storage of information.
