G7 on day 2: PM Modi highlighted terrorism; Joint stand taken on smuggling and repression

On Tuesday, on the day 2 of the G7 Summit in Kananskis, the remaining leaders continued to discuss the war in terrorism, human trafficking and Ukraine, after Trump’s exit from Monday night, he said he needed to focus on the increasing tension between Iran and Israel.Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the outreach session and held several bilateral meetings. Members of G7 issued strong joint statements on migrant smuggling and international repression, while Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelanski appealed for more global support amid fresh Russian attacks.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called his discussion with G7 leaders “productive”, he said that he focuses on global challenges and focuses on hopes for a better world.He held meetings with Canadian PM Mark Carney, UK PM Kir Stmper, French President Emmanuel Macron, South Korean President Li J-Mung, Italian PM Georgia Meloni and Australian PM Anthony Albanis. He talked about strengthening business relations and promoting cooperation in economic matters.India and Canada also agreed to appoint new higher commissioners to normalize consular and trade services after a period of diplomatic tension.In the G7 outreach session, Modi repeated India’s firm against terrorism. He urged the world leaders to work strictly against those who support or promote it. He also raised the concerns of Global South, asking G7 to address him more seriously.

G7 on migrant smuggling

The G7 countries issued a joint statement renewing their pledge to prevent migrant smuggling. This comes under the G7 alliance and their 2024 action plan.The leaders committed to strengthen border management and target criminal networks involved in human trafficking and smuggling. He also noted the relationship between smuggling and other crimes such as money laundering and drug trafficking, calling it a threat to public safety.

International repression condemnation

The G7 also took a joint stand against the transnational repression by foreign states to threaten or keep quiet.Calling it an increasing threat, the statement described it as an attack on sovereignty, national security and human rights. It states that such tasks often target journalists, dissatisfied, workers and religious minorities, especially in migrant communities.Leaders agreed to prevent this trend and coordinate efforts to maintain international law.

Zelenskyy appeals for support

The Ukrainian President Volodimier joined the second day of the Zalensky Summit as Russia started one of its biggest attacks since the war started – killed 15 people and injured over 150.“It was a very difficult night,” Zelansky told the leaders. He constantly asked for military and diplomatic support, and said that Ukraine is ready for peace talks, but only when the pressure is applied to Russia for an unconditional ceasefire.Canadian PM Carney stated that the attack “underlines the importance of standing in total solidarity with Ukraine”.

France to host the next summit

French President Emmanuel Macron announced that France would host the next G7 summit in June 2026. The meeting will be held in Lesvian-Les-Bains in Alpine Spa city. Macron said that this attention would be on working with reliable partners to maintain unity among G7 countries and to increase its impact on global issues.
