MP Aga Ruhulla Mehdi talks about ‘accountability’, indicate India news on the increasing crack with Nekan leadership

Srinagar: National Conference MP Aga Ruhullah Mehdi’s dissatisfaction with his party leadership once again came to the fore on Friday as he said that the quality of politics in Jammu and Kashmir was low, and indicated to chart an independent course.Addressing a function at Sopore, North Kashmir, Mehdi said he was looking for those who would walk with him and work towards bringing accountability to the system – “who stand for credibility”.No neck representative from Sopore or local cadre was present in the work, indicating that it was independently conducted by supporters of MP. This has held a discussion about the increasing rift between the MP and his party.Mehdi is seen as a rebellious voice within the neck, which often accuses the party of leaving the “fight for the restoration of Article 370”. Last month, at the party’s working committee meeting, he expressed displeasure over the policies of the party under the Omar Abdullah government, and insisted that the restoration of Article 370 should be his main focus. In his speech on Friday, Mehdi insisted on changing politics in Jammu and Kashmir, and said that the society should demand accountability from politicians.Mehdi has been in politics for two decades and this is the first time he was in Sopore Town to address people. He said that he was invited by a civil society group. “It doesn’t matter to me whether my party’s representative or any political party is present there,” he said. It was also not a matter of whether people had voted for him or not, Mehdi said, saying that if they call him, he would happily accept the invitation.Talking about the government’s report on reservation in J&K, he said that the findings should be disclosed within a week.
