Former Indian cricket Captain Sourav Ganguly has expressed openness to the Indian cricket team for potentially coaching the Indian cricket team, rejecting any political aspirations before the 2026 West Bengal assembly elections. The 53 -year -old former BCCI president made these comments recently during a podcast interview with PTI in Kolkata.Ganguly, who worked as the team director of Delhi Capital from 2018-19 and 2022-24, addressed speculation about his future plans in cricket administration and coaching.Ganguly said, “I had never ever thought about it because I came into different roles. I ended (competitive cricket) in 2013 and then became the president of the board (BCCI),” Ganguli said, saying that promoting women’s cricket was her biggest contribution as the President of BCCI.

When asked about the coaching to the Indian team, Ganguly replied: “We will see what the future is. I am just 50 (53), so let’s see what happens. I am open for it. We will see where it goes.”On the political front, Ganguly was uneven in his response. When asked about joining a political party, he simply said: “I am not interested.” Even when the state’s Chief Minister was suppressed about the possibility of offering the situation, he maintained the same stance.Ganguly shared his views on the performance of the current Indian coach Gautam Gambhir, taking into account his improvement since the Champions Trophy victory in Dubai.

Ganguly said, “Gangtam (Gambhir) is doing a good job. He made a slight slow down to lose to Australia and New Zealand, but he picked up with the Champions Trophy. It is going to be a big series (vs. England),” Ganguli said.Talking about Gambhir’s coaching style, Ganguly said: “I haven’t seen him very closely in this role, but I know he is very emotional. I did not look closely at his strategies because I have not worked with him as a coach. He is very straightforward, he sees things clearly, and he is very open about what he feels about team, players, people, everything. From outside, you can tell that he is a very transparent person – you get what you see.,Ganguly recalled his game’s days with Gambhir, saying, “I have played with him. He was a great man with great respect for me and senior players. Still, I can see that he is extremely emotional about his job. ,Regarding the future of Gambhir as a coach, Ganguly expressed support for his development: “I wish him all a year in the job, and it will be an important (England) tour. He continued to struggle a little in Australia, but like everyone, he would learn, he will grow, and he would be better.”
