New Delhi: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday announced two major cabinet decisions – a significant increase in reservation for Anganwadi workers in supervisors posts and the status of social and backward classes (OBCs) for the transgender community in the state.“Earlier, 25% of supervisor posts were reserved for Anganwadi workers. Now, 50% supervisor posts will be reserved for Anganwadi workers. The remaining 50% posts will be recruited through state level recruitment process,” Sarma said.In another major decision aimed at social inclusion, the Assam Cabinet approved the OBC status for the transgender community. The Chief Minister said, “Today, the Assam Cabinet has approved the transgender community to provide social and back classes status. We will only provide identity cards to those in the transgender community who are native to Assam.”
