Kolkata: A female journalist returning home from work in a private bus was allegedly slapped, misbehaved, molested and her dress was torn by 55-year-old co-yatri. Sanjay Basak, an accused from Narayanpur of South 24 Parganas in Bengal, was seated on a seat reserved for women next to the complainant on Friday night.According to his complaint, the accused started touching him improperly. “I asked him to sit properly several times, but he was derogatory … I shouted at him, raising an alarm,” he told TOI. Shocked, the man stood up. “He picked up my bag and threw it at me. As soon as I raised my voice, he slapped me and started hitting my clothes, which tore.”With the help of some co-passengers, the woman pulled the man out and handed him over to the police.Police said, “We have registered a case under the BNS section to deal with molestation, voluntarily cause serious injury, criminal intimidation, wrong restraint, and mischief. The woman will remove her confidential statement before the magistrate on Monday. Basak was granted bail before the magistrate.
