Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday criticized the Congress government for imposing an emergency and said, “We have overcome a dark chapter like Emergency because our nation never goes to dictatorship”. He was addressing a gathering at a program, marking a 50 -year emergency in Prabhuntri Sanghralaya. “Today is the eve of the 50th anniversary of the Emergency … A question may arise that what happened 50 years ago, why is it being discussed now … When any national program is completed, it is good or bad, its memory goes away in society. If the memory of an event like an emergency which removes democracy, is harmful to the country,” said the Union Home Minister. Amit Shah said that the Modi government has decided to watch annually as ‘Samvidan Hatya Day’ on 25 June to remember the country that a nation is suffering when its leaders turn into dictators “. He said that Samvidan Hatya Day should be seen so that the young man should remember that “the Constitution had become silent once”.Amit Shah said that the Emergency, which was imposed on June 25, 1975, reminds people to “what the Congress can go”. He said, “It is difficult to define the emergency in a single sentence. I have tried to come up with a definition. In a dictatorship, the conspiracy to change the multi-party democracy of a democratic country is an emergency.”Digging the opposition, Shah commented, “Those who talk about protecting democracy today, were you the protector (patron) of the Constitution, or its devout (destructive)? He claimed that the Emergency was declared to protect the nation. But the truth is that, it was declared to protect its power, “he said.Addressing the gathering, Amit Shah said that there was a change in the change in the Emergency due to which the Constitution was called a ‘mini-constitution’. Major elements such as the Preamble and the original structure were replaced, the judiciary weakened, and democratic rights were suspended.He said that it is the responsibility and right of every citizen to maintain the values of the Constitution, and its onas is not only on Parliament or the courts.
