Five arrested in Bangladesh to rape a Hindu woman, broadcasting videos; Mea urges the safety of minorities

Police in Bangladesh have arrested five persons in connection with the rape of a Hindu woman and the circulation of the victim’s video on social media. The incident took place on Thursday in Ramchadrapur Panchkita village under Muradnagar police station in Komila district.According to a police statement reported by ANI, the main accused, 36 -year -old Fajr Ali, was arrested by local residents, while allegedly raped a migrant’s wife from the same village. He was beaten by the villagers, but managed to escape from the scene.“Some people at the scene immediately recorded a video of the victim and spread it on social media,” ANI said. The disturbing footage, which goes viral, shows the victim naked and begs for her dignity.A case has been registered at Muradnagar police station. Officials have arrested Fajr Ali along with four others who allegedly recorded and broadcast the video. Police confirmed that legal proceedings were going on against all five accused.The incident has come to light in Bangladesh amid increasing concern over violence against religious minorities and women. On 31 May, various organizations organized a human chain and protest rally in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka, condemning violence against minority communities. This protest was organized by a minority coalition, Sammelitha Sanatan Parishad.In response to recent events, India’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said in briefing on 27 June that it is the responsibility of the interim government of Bangladesh to ensure the safety of Hindus and other minorities. He commented on the attack on the Durga temple.Earlier on 16 May, thousands of women’s rights activists gathered in Dhaka near Parliament House, demanding equality and dignity for women. The rally organized under the slogan “One March of solidarity on women’s calls”, which was aimed at opposing efforts to curb women’s rights in the name of religion.
