New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will appoint heads of more state units on Tuesday, when VP Ramalingam and K. Behua were selected as presidents of the party’s Puducherry and Mizoram units respectively. The appointment of BJP’s state heads will pave the way for the election of its new national president, a post which has been held by Union Health Minister JP Nadda from January 2020. Nadda is currently on an expansion. The BJP’s Constitution requires the election of its presidents in at least 19 of its 37 organizational states before the process of starting the National President. The ruling party currently has 16 state unit heads, and will cross that limit on Tuesday. The Saffron Party will find new bosses in Maharashtra (Ravindra Chavan), Telangana (Ramchander Rao) and Andhra Pradesh (PVN Madhav), while in Uttarakhand, Mahendra Bhatt will start a new word.Only Chavan, Rai and Madhav have filed nominations for their respective positions, which is only formalities for their choice. Some big states like Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh can also follow in the next few days.In March, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the headquarters of BJP’s ideological parents, Rashtrapati Swayamsevik Sangh (RSS). This caused speculation that the yatra was to discuss the names of the next President of the BJP; Nadda’s term was first extended to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and a successor has not yet been found. The RSS was away from the BJP’s campaign in the Lok Sabha elections. It was an important factor of the party that was losing its personal Lok Sabha majority for the first time since 2014.Nadda himself made a comment that the BJP “is no longer dependent on the RSS”.
