Tragedy in Oman: School bus accident driver and three students kill, twelve injured world news

On Wednesday morning, a disastrous school bus accident in the Al Rusis area of Izki located at the Dakhliya Governor of Oman, claimed the lives of four persons, including three young school children- and twelve others were injured. According to an official statement by the Royal Oman Police (ROP), the accident occurred around 7:44 am when a school bus carrying children from kindergarten to fourth grade collided with a stable item and overturned. The driver, aged 20, was declared dead on the spot along with three boys aged 6, 9 and 10. ROP describes the sequence of events in an interview Times of Oman: “When the driver was traveling from Izki, the vehicle was traveling from the area, the vehicle turned to the right, hit a lamppost, then pulled out of the road and caught fire.” Emergency respondents quickly reached the spot, where the overturned bus and scattered debris partially blocked the road. He provided immediate assistance and transferred the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Twelve school children faced injuries ranging from minor to serious. The Ministry of Health worked fast, activated its emergency response plan and coordinated with local hospitals to handle the influx of patients.

Representative of Izki’s Vilayat at the Shura Council, Younis Al Mandhari told the local media: “The accident is still unknown and has not yet been published by the Royal Oman Police. The road on which the accident occurred is confirmed, smooth and passive, with no clear issues.” He further stated, “The accident occurred when the bus hit a certain object, a lamppost, and then overturned under the high road. Apart from the bus driver, three deaths have been confirmed so far. Twelve people were seriously injured with a different degree. Six of them, which were reducing serious injuries, were in Hijwa Hospital., The Royal Oman Police, expressing condolences to the families, issued a formal statement and confirmed that the investigation was going on to “expose the full details behind the accident”.
