People convicted by ICT for participating in elections: Bangladesh AG

Dhaka: Bangladesh’s Attorney General MD Asduzaman said on Saturday that those convicted by the International Crime Tribunal (ICT) are disqualified to participate in the elections, sentenced to six months of imprisonment for the court’s contempt for the court.Since the fall of Hasina’s government in August last year, Asduzamam comment comes beyond next year’s national elections. He also said that the jurisdiction of ICT is more than organizations implicated in “crimes against humanity” along with individuals – in whose cases Hasina, who is in India, is being tried in absent by ICT.The AG stated that the Awami League is the name of a restricted unit and if someone is directly or indirectly combined with it, it will have to face legal consequences. Referring to Hasina’s tenure, she said during the previous “fascist period”, many of those who represented the so -called citizen society, including teachers, lawyers and journalists, “stepped on dictatorship footsteps and played an error in converting Bangladesh into a fascist state.
