New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to give a batch of arguments against the Drive of the Election Commission for the special intensive amendment (SIR) of the election role in Bihar. The petitions will be heard on Thursday (July 10).Bihar’s main opposition parties, Lalu Yadav’s President Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress Party have also challenged the decision of the Election Commission (ECI) of India to make special amendments before the Bihar elections.Demanding the intervention of the apex court, senior advocates Kapil Sibal and AM Singhvi argued that “millions of votes would be disintegrated in the revision of the electoral rolls”.The Supreme Court has asked the petitioners to submit a copy of their petition to the ECI and the Center to respond to their content on the day of hearing. The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), who has filed a petition against the move of the pole body, told the court earlier that “the decision has been taken arbitrarily with an impractical time and it will separate millions of those, especially from the communities. It is against independent and fair choice”.The ADR, in whose arguments the SC has passed several orders to bring electoral reforms in the past, said in its petition that the need for the head for citizenship documentation affects the marginalized communities, including Muslims, SCS, STS and migrant workers, as the base and ration cards are not acceptable. Many people who did not have the required documents may not be able to buy it within a short time period fixed by EC.Last week, RJD leader Tejashvi Prasad Yadav led a delegation of the opposition India block to meet the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Bihar, recorded strong objections for the ongoing Special Intensive Amendment (SIR) of the electoral rolls. He demanded the inclusion of Aadhaar card, ration card and MGNREGA card as valid documents for voter verification under the SIR process in Bihar. Talking to reporters after the meeting, Tejashvi said, “It is not possible to verify 8 crore voters in 25 days. About 4 crore voters of Bihar live outside the state. How can they return so soon to verify their sowing friend? He also pointed to personal experience. “My wife’s voter ID card was made on Aadhaar card basis. Why is the Aadhaar card excluded from the list of documents required for Sir in Bihar?” He asked. The delegation included RJD state president Manganilal Mandal, MP Manoj Kumar Jha and Sanjay Yadav, former minister Alok Kumar Mehta, state spokesperson Chittaranjan Gagan, Congress state president Rajesh Rum, Vidhan Party leader Shakeel Ahmed, Sanjay Pandey, Sanjay Pandey, Sanjay Pandey, Sanjay Pandey Pandey and CPI-M’s Laln Chaudhary.
