Bangladesh expects 35% US tariffs through dialogue: Government

The latest round of talks is scheduled for 9 July. Expressing Optimison, Saluhuddin said, “The final tariff will be decided in one-to-one conversation with the USTR.” “That’s why we will hold our meetings with him,” he said on Tuesday, one day Dhaka received a letter from Trump, announcing that the US would impose 35% tariffs on Bangladeshi goods from August 1. In his letter to Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus, Trump said, “These tariffs can be modified, up or downwards based on our relationship with your country.” Commerce Secretary Mehbubur Rahman said that important ideas are to protect trade interests in the current American market. “We need to agree to some concession,” he said, there are some orders to buy Boeing aircraft. He said that the government will promote the import of cotton and “We will give us priority in the purchase of food grains”.
