New Delhi: A video in which Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gikwad has physically attacked a canteen worker at a Mumbai MLA guest house, has started a latest controversy.Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi shared the video, in which Gaikwad is allegedly watching the canteen worker punching to serve stale food.“Meet Shah Army MLA Sanjay Gikwad. Last year, he had threatened and announced Rs 11 lakh for anyone cutting the tongue of Mr. Rahul Gandhi. Now the man is seen beating a poor, helpless canteen worker.Meanwhile, Gaikwad said that he had “no regrets” on the incident and “repeat it” if someone fails to understand the Democratic language.Gikwad told news agency PTI, “People from all over the state come here, workers,“When someone fails to understand the Democratic language, I only have to use this language. I did not see it that he is going to speak Marathi or Hindi. I had complained to the officials concerned on several occasions. I will repeat it,” he said.Last year, Gikwad made headlines after giving a reward of Rs 11 lakh for Rahul Gandhi’s “tongue cut”.It comes amidst controversies related to the ongoing language in Maharashtra, where Hindi vs Marathi debate has intensified. Political activists are allegedly threatening individuals to speak Hindi in the state.Earlier on Tuesday, a protest march was held in Meera Bhayandar area near Mumbai to protect Marathi ‘Asmita’ (pride). This protest followed the growing political tension after protests after attacking a shopkeeper to refuse to speak in Marathi.The protest march saw several activists in custody by the police, and saw the participation of leaders and workers of the opposition Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (SP). The march was organized in response to the recent protests by traders under the banner of Marathi Ekikran Committee by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and other Marathi groups.
