Expert Global Meat all plants write to the Agriculture Minister against the attempt to reach genetic resources

New Delhi: Removing concerns over the future of India’s genetic resources, a group of farm scientists and experts wrote to the Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, who is demanding the government’s intervention to prevent the efforts being made during the ongoing global meeting in Lima, Peru, which is beyond the current list of all plants, which are agreed to the existing list of all plants. For research and progress in medical and agriculture, genetic resources are shared under the laws of a country.Referring to an important item on the agenda for the meeting of the member countries, which wants to expand the scope of the International Treaty on the Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA) to include the genetic resources of all plants, scientists can fulfill the sovereignty of a country like a conversation, instead of a conversation, instead of a conversation. He said that the proposed steps can also affect to save, use, exchange and sell their farm-wave seeds.A prominent member of the treaty, saying that India, is rich in genetic resources, which sets the foundation for its agriculture and food production, said, “It should not allow any challenge for its sovereign rights on this important resource”.The group of scientists/experts who write Chauhan include two former scientists of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (NBPGR) – B Sarath Babu and Soma Marla – and Suman Sahai, president of NGO Jean Campaign.Asking for immediate intervention, he wrote: “We urge India to lead in conversation to attack a fair and equitable balance for all stakeholders, especially between the providers and users of plant genetic resources. It will ensure global food security and safe future where the rights of biodiversity will be properly uprooted”.Pointing to the broader tendency of developing countries including India, as a provider of genetic resources and developed people, the group also demolished the concerns over the draft proposal on amending the existing conditions of “Access and Benefit sharing”.He said, “The newly proposed payment rates and mechanisms are not such that will generate funds with the value of the genetic diversity taken. As it stands, after millions of seed transfer, very little monetary contribution has become physical”.
