US State Department Sorting: Trump Administration orders a decrease in the workforce; More than 1300 employees were affected

The US State Department placed on Friday (local time) as part of the latest step of the Trump administration to cut more than 1,300 employees to cut their American workforce by about 15%. It is part of a comprehensive effort to reorganize the department.According to a notice sent to the employees of the State Department, the retrenchment consists of 1107 civil service employees and 246 foreign service officers. Overall, around 3000 people are expected to leave. The department is also re -organizing the organizational structure of employees. Officially these trimmed, called “deficiency-in-for-for” or RIF, have been planned for months. Officials sent a plan to restructured to the Congress in March, stating that the deduction was necessary to remove duplicate offices and focus on the main responsibilities of the department. However, critics argue that cuts will damage the state department’s ability to work. All Democratic members of the Senate Foreign Alert Committee sent a letter to the state secretary Marco Rubio on Friday, opposing the sorting on Friday. The senators wrote, “During the rapid complex and comprehensive-spread challenges for American national security, this administration should strengthen our diplomatic core-do not weaken an irreparable means of American power and leadership,” the senators wrote.A letter reported by the news agency CBS said, “However, the RIF will severely reduce the department’s capacity to achieve the interests of the US foreign policy, risking our country’s security, power and prosperity.” Foreign service officers who received notices for retrenchment will quit their jobs in 120 days, while civil service employees will depart in 60 days.A few days after the Supreme Court allowed the Comprehensive Plan of the Trump administration to reduce the size of government employees, the planned pruning began for a long time, eliminating the order of the lower court, which stopped the scheme of retrenchment in dozens of federal agencies. The department employees were informed about the upcoming retrenchment on Thursday afternoon. Some employees were instructed that due to the employed retrenchment, they would not be allowed to work from a distance on Friday. They were asked to report to the office along with goods issued by all departments including laptops, phones, diplomatic passports, travel cards and other government property. An email reported that the badge would be collected during the checkout process and employees would be reminded to collect any individual goods in advance.Diplomats and other employees appreciated colleagues in emotional scenes at the Washington Headquarters of the State Department, who run US foreign policy and embassies worldwide. The Union, representing the employees of the US Foreign Services Association (AFSA), State Department, criticized the move, “a terrible shock for our national interests”.The AFSA said in a statement, “In a moment of great global instability – with war in Ukraine, conflicts between Israel and Iran, and ruling rule testifies the boundaries of international orders – the United States has chosen its marginal diplomatic workforce,” AFSA said in a statement.“We oppose this decision in the strongest words,” the statement said.
