Government sets panels for restructuring Indian universities as per NEP 2020

New Delhi: The Center has assigned the work of a high -power committee with a review and reorganization of the Union of Indian Universities (AIU) to align its mandate with proposed reforms under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and India’s Higher Education Commission (HECI). The move came amidst efforts to streamlines the rule of higher education, enhance institutional autonomy and establish a global ecosystem for Indian universities, the report of Manash Gohan. The committee will submit its report within six months, during which AIU is advised to maintain the status quo.The committee headed by Anil Sahsharbudh, head of the National Educational Technology Forum, is expected to investigate the role of AIU in the regulatory scenario to be developed and suggest how it can support universities as they infection in the integrated structure of HECI. Its members include V Kamakoti, Director, IIT-Madras; Nageshwar Rao, former VC, Ignu; Sasikala Vanjari, VC, Neepa; S Vidhyasubramaniam, VC, Sastra; And Pankaj Mittal, General Secretary, AIU.AIU, established in 1925, evaluated foreign degrees, and promoted sports and cultural initiatives for long -coordinated functioning of universities. However, with the imagination of a single regulator for higher education through HECI, the operational structure and functions of AIU are being re -established.A member told TOI, “The committee will investigate the operational issues and the future role of AIU, which must come under HECI.” “AIU’s strong institutional networks can be leveraged for global engagement and recognition of merit under the new system.”Reorganization also follows the notification of grant of grant for the recognition of the University Grants Commission and the rules of foreign educational institutions, the qualification received from 2025. This outline tries to establish a standardized and transparent process to recognize foreign educational degrees in India, which enhances the government’s initiative of “study in India”.
