New Delhi: A house is being demolished in Bangladesh for three generations of Bengal’s most respected literary and cultural figures, which is a matter of strong concern with the Government of India. The under consideration is the ancestral home of the famous children’s author and publisher Upendrikishur Ru Chaudhary, which is located in the city of Meymensinh. There was also the father of the miscreant poet Sukumar Ray and the grandfather of mythological filmmaker Satyajit Ray. Currently property owned by the Government of Bangladesh. The Ministry of External Affairs (Mea) regretted the demolition, given that the house is a milestone close to the bungalow cultural renaissance. It said that the building can be restored and converted into a literature museum celebrating a shared heritage. The ministry also said that if such a scheme is considered, the Government of India will be ready to support. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also expressed concern, saying that the demolition of such a place filled with memory was “heartbreaking”. He called upon both the governments of Bangladesh and India to take steps to preserve the historic site, describing the Ray family as the “flashlight” of the cultural heritage of Bengal.“I have learned from media reports that a memory-enactive house of famous writer-editor Upendrakishore Royacorie in the city of Mayayamensingh, Bangladesh, is being demolished. The reports are said to have started the demolition process. The house had fallen into chaos and remained unused for almost a decade. It had previously kept Mysin Singh Sheshu Academy, but was later abandoned. A Bangladeshi official told the local media that the new scheme included the construction of a semi-concrete building on the site to resume the operation of the academy.
