New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday dragged the Haryana Special Investigation Team (SIT) to expand its investigation against Ashok University Professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad, who are facing two FIRs for online posts during Operation Sindoor.A bench led by Justice Surya Kant and Dipankar Dutt asked the SIT to strictly define its investigation, strictly for two FIRs registered against the professor and complete the investigation within four weeks. The bench said, “Do not try to expand the scope of firings. Sit is free to create your opinion, but not distracted by the task,” the bench said. The court also questioned the SIT’s decision to seize electronic equipment of Mahmudabad, commenting that the agency “wrongly”. It directed the SIT to submit a copy of its investigation report after filing the jurisdiction before the court. In a relief for Mahmudabad, the apex court relaxed one of its bail terms to allow him to write articles and share opinion, unless they are related to cases that are under sub -jazz or investigation in two FIRs. “He can write anything except specific cases described in the FIR,” the court said. This comes a few weeks after the court extending the interim bail of Mahmudabad until the third week of July, while writing about the issues related to the FIR maintains a gag order. In the May 29 hearing, Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, was visible for Mahmudabad, said that the gag order was raised, saying, “He is an Oxford-educated mature person. He knows where he has landed due to writing. I am motivating you to remove this condition.”,However, the court rejected the request at that time, stating that it did not want a “parallel comment” on the investigation.Mahmudabad was arrested earlier this year for posting objectionable materials on social media related to Operation Sindoor, due to which two FIRs were registered against him. The Haryana Seet consists of three senior IPS officers: ADGP MAMTA SINGH, Sp Karnal Ganga Ram Punia, and SP STF (Gurgaon) Vikrant Bhushan.
