New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs on Friday staged a protest against the European Union’s “unilateral” step to approve Russia, calling its “double standards” in energy trade.Mea spokesman Randhir Jiswal said in a statement on X, “We have noted the latest sanctions declared by the European Union. India does not take membership of any unilateral approval measures. We are a responsible actor and are fully committed to our legal obligations.”“The Government of India considers the provision of energy security to be the responsibility of paramount importance to meet the basic needs of its citizens. We will emphasize that there should be no double standards, especially when it comes to energy trade, “the statement states.The Ukraine War included the new sanctions of the European Union targeting Russia, an Indian oil refinery owned by Rosneft and measures against a low -value hat on Russian oil. The package also introduced strict banking curb and fresh ban on fuel products made of Russian crude.Rosneft has a 49.13% stake in Naira Energy Limited, in the past Essar Oil Ltd. Nayara runs a large refinery in Gujarat with an annual capacity of 20 million tonnes, and operates over 6,750 fuel stations across India.
