According to ABC News report, a 61 -year -old man died after pulling into an MRI machine wearing a metal chain in a medical facility in New York on Wednesday. The incident occurred in the afternoon at Nasau Open MRI in Westbury, Long Island. According to NASAU County Police, the man entered an MRI room without the authority, while a scan was already in progress. The strong magnetic field of the machine attracted a large metal chain around her neck, resulting in a medical episode.Police said in a statement, “The male victim wore a large metal chain around his neck, which led to a medical episode as a result.Emergency respondents reached the spot after 911 calls at 4.34 pm. The unknown person was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The next day he died at 2.36 pm, the police confirmed on Friday. The investigation of the deadly incident is going on. A police spokesperson said no more details were available. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines are operated by strong magnetic fields and radio frequency currents to generate wide internal images of the body. Due to the strength of the magnet, patients are advised to remove all metal items before entering the scanning room regularly, including small jewelry or piercing.According to the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioinizing, an MRI magnetic force is quite strong for wheelchairs throughout the room. The agency also warns against entering the scan area with certain medical transplants or metal items. The fatal events associated with MRI machines are rare, but have previously happened. In 2001, a six -year -old boy died in the United States after pulling an oxygen tank into a machine during a scan. In 2018, a person in India lost his life after entering the MRI room carrying oxygen cylinders. Last year, a nurse in California was crushed due to a magnetic bridge between the MRI machine and a hospital bed, requiring surgery, the report of the New York Times.
