India’s Cybercrime Reporting System logged in to 36 million fraud cases in 2024; 22,845 crore lost, more than 10,000 arrested. Bharat News

New Delhi: Citizens reported a loss of more than Rs 22,845 crore to cyber financial frauds last year, which marks a 206% increase with a loss of Rs 7,465 crore reported in 2023, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) informed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.Responding to a question, Junior Home Minister Bandhi Sanjay Kumar said that 36.4 lakh Financial Fraud National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) and Civil Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System (CFCFRMS) operated by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C), which is under purification of MHA. In this comparison, 24.4 lakh financial incidents of financial fraud were reported in 2023.Kumar said that the total cyber crimes reported on NCRP saw an increase of 42% in 2024 in 2023 as compared to 15.9 lakhs.While the NCRP was launched by the I4C in 2019, CFCFRMS was launched in 2021 for immediate reporting of financial fraud and to prevent the closure of funds by fraudsters.The minister told the Lok Sabha that CFCFRMS has so far saved more than Rs 5,489 crore in more than 17.8 lakh complaints.Giving details of the action taken by the government against cyber criminals, the minister said that so far more than 9.42 lakh SIM cards and 2,63,348 IMES, as reported by police officers, have been blocked by the Center.A suspected registry of cyber criminals identifiers was launched by I4C on September 10, 2024 in collaboration with banks and financial institutions. Kumar said that till now more than 11 lakh suspected identifier data received from banks and 24 lakh layer 1 mule accounts have been shared with the participation institutions of suspected registry and saved more than Rs 4631 crore.According to him, the ‘Pratibimb’ module, which mopes the jurisdiction officers of criminals and the infrastructure of crime to visibility to the jurisdiction officers, offered technical-legal assistance to law enforcement agencies, 10,599 accused, 26,096 linkage and 63,019 cyber investigative requests.
