New instructions: Israel makes Arabic, Islam conducts compulsory studies for all intelligence authorities; here’s why

In a major change, the Israeli army has announced reforms in its intelligence training, making Arabic language and Islamic cultural studies mandatory for all intelligence personnel, reports of Jerusalem Post. This step comes in response to intelligence groups before the attacks of Hamas, 7 October, 2023.The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that the changes were led by Major General Shloomi Binder, head of the IDF Intelligence Directorate, also known as Aman. For the first time, soldiers in technical and cyber roles will undergo training in Arabic and Islamic studies. The goal is to ensure that future commanders are fluent in Arabic and are familiar with Islamic culture.According to the Jewish News Syndicate (JNS), all Aman soldiers will be trained in Islamic studies by the end of next year, and half will receive Arabic language instructions. These figures represent a significant jump from previous years.“This is part of a fundamental cultural change within Israeli intelligence,” said Israeli’s Army Radio’s Dorn Kadosh said. He said that a new department will soon be built within Aman to teach Arabic and Islamic studies. Special attention will also be paid to regional dialects, including the spoken in Iraq and Hauthis in Yemen.A challenge facing IDF is understanding the Hurti Communications. According to sources quoted by Jerusalem Post, the use of a mild drug cut usually chewed in Yemen has made the speech unclear and hard. In June, an Israeli strike on a fighter leader allegedly failed as he was participating in a Kat-length meeting. To address such issues, Aman is offering a target course to train language analysts in region-specific dialects. Recruitment has been recruited to help the coaches of relevant communities provide more authentic instructions.Reforms would also show reopening of telemuts, a department once promoted Arabic and Middle Eastern studies in Israeli schools. Telemut was closed six years ago due to budget cuts, due to which there was a decline in Arabic education in students.“So far, we are not quite good in the areas of culture, language and Islam,” a senior peace officer told the army radio. “We will not convert our intelligence officials and soldiers to Arab children who grew up in a village, but through language and cultural studies, we can include them in doubt and intensive observation.”
