Bengaluru: A gaugee youth of Kadur in the picturesque district of Chikkamalore once took the Karnataka women’s cricket circuit from the storm. Barely a teenager, he hit the ball fearlessly, was a silver quick on the field and was supported by infectious energy. In a state where there was a shortage of emerging stars among women cricketers, the arrival of Ved Krishnamurthy was a fresh air breath. At the age of 13, he started Karnataka. For the next 18 years, he served the game well, excellent at both national and international levels. On Friday evening, at an emotional socio-media post, 32-year-old called time on his game career. “From a small town girl to wearing India’s jersey with big dreams, it is grateful to everything. “Cricket gave me a lesson, people and memories. It’s time to say goodbye to play, but not for the game,” she said.
Veda will be best remembered to be a part of Indian women’s cricket’s turnout generation, which fought his fight against England in 2017 through the ICC Women’s World Cup title competition at Lord’s. Talking to Toi, the Vedas, who have not been seen in the colors of India since the 2020 T20 World Cup final in Australia, said, “I felt the time was right. The national selectors are clear that there is no return and in domestic cricket, I think I am taking a place from a young man.”
It was a conceptual decision with focus on the future. “I knew the day would come,” Ved said, who painted in the second edition of the Women’s Premier League for Gujarat veterans. “I think the Karnataka team is now in the right place with a good mixture of talent and experience.
