NEP@5: More learners, more women, more languages – but can it distribute at its full promise? , Bharat News

New Delhi: Founder reader and arithmetic skills among students of class III in government schools have recorded their strongest benefits in almost two decades, with rural learners improved their urban peers – indicated grassroots level progress. In higher education, enrollment has increased by more than 30.5% since 2015, in which women PhD enrollment is more than double and significant gains between SC, ST, minority and North Eastern students, as the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has started resumption of India’s education system. However, five years later, the policy continues to face political resistance from some opposition ruled states, which have expressed concern over centralization and language. While 35 universities have started infection in multi -disciplinary institutions with central support, the uplift of improvements such as many entry -uninterrupted options is limited -outlining both initial speed and implementation barriers. In schools, the biggest innings ‘5+3+3+4 structure’ has been integrated pre-school. By 2024, more than 1.1 crore children are nominated in ‘Balvakti’, above 50 lakhs in 2018. Elementary education has received structured support, now offering ‘Balvik’ and 121 multilingual primers with 496 Kandriya Vidyavayat. The Nipun Bharat Mission, launched to improve the founder literacy and numerical in 2021, started to achieve results. Aser 2024 showed that 23.4% of class III students in Govt schools can now read a grade II -level lesson – the highest since 2005 – above 16.3% in 2022. Arithmetic scores have also improved – 27.6% students can now make basic subtraction in 2022 by 20.2%. Parakh National Survey found that rural students improved their urban counterparts in both reading and mathematics.More than 14 lakh teachers have been trained under the Nisha Founding Program. ‘Jadui Pitara’ – a multilingual sport – the following teaching kit – has been distributed in 22 Indian languages. However, the government offers more than half of the government’s and aided schools, and it is a challenge to align the course with the infrastructure. In higher education, the emphasis of NEP on flexibility is reflected in the rollout of academic bank of credit (ABC), multiple entry-exit options and bipolar entry. By July 2025, more than 32 crore ABC IDs have been generated and 2,556 are on ship on institutes. The new bipolar entry cycle is expected to reduce infection and reduce dropouts.Between 2014-15 and 2022-23, higher education enrollment increased from 3.42 crores to 4.46 crore. Women enrollment increased by 38.4%to 1.57 crore to 2.18 crore. Female PhD enrollment increased from 135.6%, 48,000 to 1.12 lakhs. SC student enrollment increased by 50% and ST enrollment by 75%. Gross enrollment ratio (GER) between SCS increased from 18.9 lakh to 27.3 lakhs, and from 13.5 lakh to 23.5 lakhs between STS.Access also improved among minorities. Muslim student enrollment increased by 46.3%, which increased from 15.3 lakh to 22.4 lakhs, and other minorities from 61%, 6.5 lakh to 10.5 lakhs. The Northeast saw an increase of 36%, in which women are now getting slightly male with students.Nevertheless, the change of single-discipline institutions has lagged behind. Although 35 universities have received every 100 crore rupees under PM-Usha, many engineering and teacher education colleges have not yet been revived. Faculty development, course design and infrastructure remain gaps. While 153 universities provide multiple entry and allow 74 to exit early, only about 31,000 undergraduate and 5,500 postgraduate have used these options so far – pushing the student forward, suggesting structural reforms.
