Zoharan Mamdani under fire under fire on the previous ‘NYPD’ comment; Shift stance after Follen NYC officer visited the family; Old post online resurrection

Democratic mayorl candidate Zoharan Mamdani is facing backlash after visiting the family of NYPD officer Didarul Islam, as the critics reported their last 2020 tweet to “save the police”.The dispute erupted after the Mamdani, who recently returned from a visit to Uganda, an officer visited the grieving family of Islam, one of the four victims killed in a collective shooting in Midtown Manhattan. The shooter, Shane Tamura set fire on Monday, killing Islam and three others before shooting himself.Sharing a post on X, Mammadani wrote: “Two days ago, a work of insensitive violence killed Adhikari Islam, Wesley Leptar, Aland Einteen and Julia Hyiman. Today, I visited the family of officer Islam and learned about their heritage. I ask you to attend the memory of these four new Yorkers. ,However, the post quickly criticized, users referred to the previous tweets of Mamdani during the height of the “Defund the Police” movement in 2020.Many people accused him of changing his stand for political gains. One user wrote, “You cannot go guilty that I do not love the police. You love the police. You are asking New Yorkers to abandon your guns, meanwhile you married with armed guard in Uganda.”While another posted, “Zoharan Mamdani exposed the total fraud. Made fun of the police, called him racist, then as he cares? There is no loyalty to America. He is in Uganda, does not lead NYC. NYC does not lead. Leave it and protect our city!”Earlier, at a press conference after his visit at the officer’s house at Bronx, Mammadani addressed the criticism and tried to clarify his situation, saying: “I am not missing the police; I am not running to save the police.”He said, “During this race, I have been very clear about my approach to public safety and important role in creating that public security,” he said.Standing with members of the Bangladeshi American Police Association – in which the officers were a member of Islam – and the Labor Union 32 BJ, who represented another victim, Alnd Etiene, Mammadani tried to attack a unified tone.During the extreme of the “Divind the Police” movement in 2020, Zoharan Mamdani repeatedly called for a big cut in the NYPD budget. In a post, he wrote, “We do not need an inquiry to know that NYPD is a big threat to racist, anti -curios and public safety. What we want is #Defundthenypd.”In another, he said, “There is no conversation with this wicked and corrupt organization. Remove it. Finish it. Finish the cycle of violence,” referring to budget talks around the proposed NYPD cuts. Now, Mammadani has removed herself from those comments. When asked about him, he replied, “My statements were made in 2020 amidst a disappointment that was held in the murder of many New Yorker George Floid.”Mamdani claimed that his current stance was more fine, saying that his previous posts were “clearly out of step” with his recent campaign forum. Now he supports maintaining NYPD headcount by reducing his overtime budget.Despite this explanation, skepticism remains. The New York Post reported that several police officers and political observers have accused the Mamdani of shifting the posts purely for political gains in a city where there is a top concern for public safety voters, the New York Post reported.Connecting in political firstorms, former Governor Andrew Kuomo and Mayor Eric Edams, which are leading Mamdani in the initial voting for the 2025 mayorl race, was weighed immediately after the shooting. Mamdani said, “It is beyond me,” It is beyond me that politicians are trying to use these days to score such condemn political points these days, “Mamdani said, on the same day when I kept the father of Islam in my arms and he could not say a single word.”He said, “To spend a full day for the former governor, to speak almost especially about me and barely about New Yorkers who have been killed are a sign of very politics that New Yorkers want to leave in the past,” he said. The three, Mamdani, Kuomo and Adams are expected to attend the funeral of Islam on Thursday.
