‘He was doing his work’: Indian-man-security guard Ramandeep Singh’s killer was sentenced to life in New Zealand

In 2023, Indian-hero Ramandeep Singh was assassinated in New Zealand. The killer has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

A New Zealand person, Lorenzo Tangira, has been sentenced to life imprisonment in 2023 with a minimum non-parole period of 13 years and nine months to kill Indian-origin security guards. The 25-year-old Indian man Ramandip Singh was doing his work on the night of December 2023, some of the second job for some additional income, Tangira and a co-operative. Tangira grabbed Singh from behind his vest, rotated him around and punched him again and again. The court documents stated that Singh weighs only 46 kg, and was kicked and left with several skulls and facial fractures and severe brain injuries.

Insecure, long and severe attack

Justice Jeffrey Wane said that it was a long and serious attack on Singh, while he was calling for help and escape. He said, “The murder of Mr. Singh was insecure. He was doing his work there,” he said. The attacker did not show any real regrets and accepted Singh to punch but denied responsibility for the deadly explosion. The judge said that Tangira has a violent criminal record and lacks real rehabilitation efforts. Justice Wane said, “You might know that violence against Mr. Singh was extreme and unacceptable.” “You had many opportunities to stop the attack … but you carried forward.”Singh went to Auckland five years before the attack to pursue higher education. On the night of the tragedy, he was working as a security guard of the Royal Reserve. His sister issued a statement which was read in court by the prosecution. “He was my closest friend, my anchor, my guide … and now he has gone – the most cruel way. If it can be with him while doing his work in a park, how can any of us feel safe?” Read the statement. His parents said, “An animal will not be treated as it was … his disadvantage has separated us in ways that cannot be repaired. There is now a silence in our house -a heaviness, a heaviness, a zero that will never be filled,” his parents said.
