Trump honored about 100 purple listeners at the White House; After the 2024 attack, tribute to the service members who give medals pay to the injured veterans
US President Donald Trump on Thursday honored around 100 purple heart recipients at the White House during a ceremony in the East Room, marking the National Purple Heart Day.Trump opened the incident by identifying the veterans in the presence and expressing his gratitude. “Thanks to you and your incredible families,” he said.Purple Heart is still the oldest American military award in use. It is given to the service members who are injured or killed during the enemy action or as a result of terrorism. According to the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor, more than 1.8 million medals have been awarded since the establishment of decorations in 1782. The National Purple Heart Day is seen on 7 August.On Thursday, many of the recognized people were veterans who gave Trump their own medals after an attempt to murder at a 2024 campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. A few days before the Republican National Convention, a shooter’s bullet pierced the upper part of Trump’s right ear. In the following months, some purple heart recipients gave him their medal in the events of the campaign.According to a White House official, three of the veterans who gave their medal to Trump participated in the White House program. The White House also said that some of those recipients were later brought to Trump’s rallies so that they could return the medal to them.Several senior officials attended the ceremony, including Defense Secretary PT Hegaseth, Secretary Affairs Secretary Dug Collins and Jean Dan Can, Chairman of Joint Chief of Staff. Chris Lacivita, co-manager of the former Trump’s expedition, also participated. A marine giant, Lacivita, is a purple heart recipient himself.
