Court spoke to family members after receiving Rana new lawyer

New Delhi: Delhi’s Patiala House Court on Thursday allowed Tavavur Rana to interact with his family for a limited purpose to discuss the engagement of a new legal aid lawyer despite 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.Currently, Delhi Legal Services Authority advocate Piyush Sachdeva is a legal counsel for Rana. Pakistan -born Canadian ventured into court after Tihar Jail officials rejected their application to talk to their family over phone.Rana is reportedly David Coleman Headley, aka Dude Geelani, an American citizen and a close associate of the chief conspirator in the attacks, who killed 166.On July 15, the court allowed Rana’s plea to give instructions to the jail authorities to provide the jail authorities with a bed and a mattress. Officials had opposed the petition, arguing that prisoners aged 65 years or older could be given a bed under a gel manual. Rana is 64. On July 9, after the NIA filed a supplementary charge sheet, the court extended Rana’s judicial custody till August 13. Rana was brought to India after the US Supreme Court rejected his review petition against extradition on 4 April. News network
