‘Veg War’: Trump Order Pentagon to draft military reaction to Latin America Drug Cartel; Mexico president insists on ‘no attack’

US President Donald Trump secretly signed an executive order, directed the Pentagon to prepare for potential military action against Latin American drug cartels, earlier this year to classify the smuggling groups of several drugs as “terrorist” organizations. The New York Times, citing the state media, stated that Trump directed the Pentagon to start using military force against Cartel, while the Wall Street Journal said the Defense Department was asked to prepare an option for such action. Possible measures under discussion include deploying special forces and providing intelligence assistance to foreign partners.Mexican President Claudia Shinbam on Friday replied to the reports that “there would be no attack from Mexico.”“We were informed that this executive order was coming and had nothing to do with the participation of any military personnel or any institution in our region,” Shinbam quoted AFP as saying at his regular morning conference. In March, Trump vowed the drug cartel of Mexico to vow to “wage war”, accusing him of “serious threat” for rape, murder and national security. Last month, the US nominated Venezuela’s Train de Argu, Mexico’s Sinaloa Cartel, and six other Latin American drug smuggling groups as “global terrorist” organizations. The Trump administration has since added the Cartel of the Sun of Venezuela, which has been accused of shipping hundreds of tons of narcotics in the United States in two decades. On 20 January, his first day at the White House, Trump signed an executive order to create a process for such designations, stating that Cartel “forms a national-protection threat beyond traditional organized crime.”
