SC orders on Delhi stray dogs: protests in the capital, many detained; PETA Slam ‘irrational’ ruling | Bharat News

New Delhi: Delhi Police on Monday detained animal rights activists, rescue teams, carers and dog lovers, who were protesting against the Supreme Court order at India’s gate, so that all stray dogs in Delhi-NCR could be transferred to shelters within eight weeks.Earlier in the day, in a Suu Motu case on dog bites, the Supreme Court directed the Delhi government to start choosing stray dogs from all areas, keep them in shelters, and leave them back to roads, colonies or public places. The court stated that shelters should be established to accommodate around 5,000 dogs and prepared employees with enough personnel for sterilization and vaccination. The situation “extremely serious,” Justice JB Pardwala and R. Mahadevan insisted, “We are issuing these directions, which are releasing in large -scale public interest,” further saying that infants, young children should not fall at any cost, leading to rabies for dog bites.PETA India Advockey Associate Shaurya Aggarwal criticized the ruling, “impractical, irrational and … as per animal birth control rules, also called illegal.” He said that Delhi has about 1 million stray dogs and all of them would be impossible in shelters. “This is going to create chaos and problems. Removing dogs is inhuman, cruelty in itself, and the conditions within shelters are going to be very bad … We are searching for all our legal routes. And in the past, we have met the Delhi government and urged to implement ABC rules in the city.”
