Michigan Ballot Scandal: Councilman filmed in drop-box stuffing ro; Police confirms authenticity of footage

The monitoring video shows counselor Abu Moses on a vehicle passenger seat as another person collects three piles of ballots in a city drop box a few days before the primary election.

In the clip, Moses can be seen passing the papers of several bundles, it is believed that the driver is considered absent ballot. The driver is then seen with three piles in a drop box. As mentioned by the Daily Mail, time was important as it took place only four days before the primary elections of Hamtram on August 5, with Moses first came with 1,129 votes.According to the New York Post, the election records show that 843 votes of Moses were cast by absent voting, while only 286 came only on election days. Without absent votes, Moses finished only fifth in 12-individual competition.Allegations were reported against the backdrop of the ongoing election disputes in Hamtram. Earlier this month, two other council members, Muhtasin Sadman and Mohammad Hasan were accused of forging ballot papers in the 2023 local election. In that case, Attorney General Dana Nessel alleged that councilors had recently conspired to gather ballot papers absent from natural citizens and then filled them with their favorite candidates. Moses was nominated in the same investigation, but was not accused.The local 4 news of Detroit reported that the city clerk originally appeared “similar handwriting” on several absent voting envelopes and “large bundles of ballot papers” were presented at once. Hammant City Clerk Rana Faraj insisted, “The state laws are clear that your ballot should only be handled by your or family member.”Moses is also in a separate investigation whether he actually lives within the hatrum, which needs to serve in the council. The New York Post reported that he has denied any wrongdoing.The Michigan law allows individuals to give absent ballot on behalf of others, but only when they are close relatives or live in the same house. Oklaland County Clerk Lisa Brown explained to WXWZ, “If it is an immediate family member or you co-resign with someone, you can return their absent ballot papers.”The dispute has further ignored the city of Hamtrum of over 28,000 people, of which more than 70 percent are Muslims. In 2022, it became the first American city with an all-Muslim council. Its political profile increased last year when Mayor Amer Ghalib publicly supported Donald Trump, later nominated by the US President as Kuwait’s ambassador.Trump took Michigan narrowly in the 2024 election, winning 49.7 percent votes compared to 48.3 percent of Kamla Harris.
