‘You don’t live here’: Google Engineer shared the H-1B crisis, saying that he is worried about making mistakes

The Indian-original Google employee shares how H-1B, despite cushion of good bank balance, always feels temporary in America.

A 30-year-old Google software engineer, Surabhi Madan shared her experience of being on H-1B visa, although she calls America at her home since 2013, when she came to the country for her graduation at Brown University. In an interview with Business Insider on Hayers and the Lolles of the Big Tech Visa, which is now a bone of controversy in American politics, the Indian original Google employee said how H-1B gave him so many opportunities in life, but still his life seems temporary in America-because of H-1B. He said that Madan was the most lucky to receive H -1B visas in lottery in his first attempt in 2017, but it was a different time, he said. Companies were hiring to sponsor H-1B applications. Since then, Madan has been with Google and is now a senior software engineer. She now wants to include her career in teaching, but H -1B does not allow her to do so. “I am eager to make mistakes when I drive or file tax because I don’t want anything to endanger my migration in the country. Because of visa, my life in America seems temporary,” Madan said. “I have the option to renew my apartment lease for a year or two, and I always choose a year because I never know how long I will be allowed to stay in America,” he said. Sharing an experience of how American officials saw the legal migrants, Madan said, “Once she was returning to America after a foreign trip. In immigration, he was asked about the purpose of the journey. “I live here,” he told the officer. “You don’t live here; you work here,” the official said, leaving an impact on his mind. The Trump administration is aiming to overhala the H-1B system as MAGA workers are advocating for its scraping. The new proposed rule will allow technical companies to appoint foreign talents only for high, high -paying positions.
