What is Cesium-137, why is it harmful?
Cesium-137, also known as CS-137, is a by-product of nuclear reactions, including nuclear weapons testing, reactor operations, and nuclear accidents. According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), it is the most common radioactive isotope in the Cesium. CS-137 is also used in medical devices, gauges and radiation therapy to treat cancer, while in some cases, it emerges as waste products of nuclear reactors.According to the agency, the lower level of Cesium -137 can be exposed to a low level of exposure over time. The trace volume of isotopes is found globally in soil, air and food.
