New Delhi: Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has strongly criticized England and Wales Cricket Board(ECB) decision to retire Pataudi TrophyCalling it a step that lacks sensitivity and historical respect.

The Pataudi Trophy, held for 75 years of India-England Test cricket in 2007, has been awarded the winner of the bilateral test series played in England. However, reports suggest that ECB has planned to replace it before the upcoming five-observant chains between India and England in June-July 2025.

In his column for Sportstars, Gavaskar did not make any words: “This is the first time that someone has heard of a trophy in the name of individual players retiring … It reflects the total lack of sensitivity to the contribution made by Patodis for both England and India in both England and India.”
He said that when it is within the right to change the name of the ECB trophy, the name of Pataudi is an dissatisfaction for his legacy.
