Donald Trump dismissed Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to South East Asia as a deliberate attempt to “screw” the United States.
A few hours after Xi’s meeting for Lam with Vitnam’s President, Trump replied in the Oval Office: “I don’t blame China. I don’t blame Vietnam. I don’t see that they are meeting today. Is it amazing? He accused President Joe Biden of losing “trillion dollars” in China’s business.
Speaking with Al Salvador President Naib Bucle, Trump said: “I don’t blame President Xi Jinping. I like him. He likes me. I mean, you know who knows, who knows?”
In his last day in Hanoi on Tuesday, Xi paid tribute to the late revolutionary leader of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh, with a red wreath with words “the great leader of Long Live Vietnam, President Ho Chi Minh”. He is about to visit the next Malaysia and Cambodia.
While living in Vietnam, Xi urged the two countries to “oppose unilateral bullying and maintain the stability of the global free trade system”, according to the Chinese state media, “opposing and opposing unilateral bullying and”. The journey concluded with the signing of 45 cooperation agreements between China and Vietnam, with areas such as artificial intelligence, supply chain, joint maritime patrol and rail infrastructure. The specific details of deals are unknown.
During his meeting with Lam, Xi put both countries as “standing at the turn of history … and should move forward with joint hands.”
In a statement, China’s Foreign Ministry said that countries should avoid making “exclusive and closed ‘small circles’ that weaken mutual trust and cooperation,” and instead promote “peace, stability and prosperity” in the region.
