A French police officer uprooted nationwide riots to prosecute Kishore’s murder

Paris: A French police officer would face a case of voluntary murder on the murder of a 17 -year -old next year, a death that triggered nationwide riots.The prosecutor’s office in the Paris suburb, where the victim Nahel Merzuk grew up and was killed in 2023, announced in a statement that the magistrates on Tuesday decided to send the police officer for a test after two years of investigation.The officer, known in legal documents only as Florian M, was initially detained, but a few months later further investigation was issued. The prosecutor’s office said they are expected to face the trial in the third quarter of 2026.Merzuk’s family and lawyer did not immediately respond to the requests of comment on the announcement.The teenager was shot dead during a traffic stop in Nantre. The video featured two officers at Mercedes’ window, one who was driving, one pointed to Merzuk with his gun. As soon as the car proceeded, the officer opened fire once.After the murder, Nantre prosecutor Pascal Prache said that his initial investigation motivated him to conclude that the use of his weapon officer was not legally appropriate.Protests over his murder around France became more violent, in which shops were looted and public buildings yearned. Thousands of people were arrested as the government increased its law enforcement response to calm unrest, and hundreds of people were injured. A 54 -year -old died after hitting a stray bullet, in the relevant protests in the French Guana’s foreign area in South America.The reaction to the murder was a powerful reminder of continuous poverty, discrimination, unemployment and lack of opportunity in the neighborhood around France, where many residents detect their roots for former French colonies.
