New Delhi: The Trinumool Congress (TMC) on Tuesday recommended party general secretary and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee to represent the party in the parliamentary delegations associated with Operation Sindoor. The decision came after Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju contacted TMC chief Mamata Banerjee to discuss the representation.TMC posted on X: “We are happy to share that our president Mamta Banerjee has nominated National GS Abhishek Banerjee to represent the Trinmool Congress in all party delegations for India’s global outreach against terrorism.”A day earlier, Abhishek Banerjee strongly voiced the need for comprehensive consultation before finalizing members of such delegations. “… For the Parliamentary delegation of members, I said in the first afternoon that the Center cannot unilaterally decide who will go from which party. They should ask for names and make extensive discussions with all political parties, especially the opposition. If you ask for five names from Trinmool, we will nominate five MPs, ”he said.Referring to the government’s justification for the delegation, he said, “Now, I got the news that the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs said that he is ‘representing the country’ – and I completely agree with them. So if it is about representing the country, we should unanimously build consensus and consent.”He also proposed a comprehensive approach, which suggested, “Instead of sending MPs only, we should consider sending martyrs, family members of the remaining people, or to the brave officers who took the operation vermilion from the frontlines, who have put their lives at risk and are cautious so that India can sleep in peace? The Parliamentary Outreach initiative consists of 51 political leaders – MPs and former ministers of various parties, as well as eight former ambassadors. These members will build seven delegations who will visit various world capitals, who will present the position of India on terrorism efforts and operation vermilion. The delegation will be led by major political leaders, including Baijayant Panda and Ravi Shankar Prasad (BJP), Sanjay Kumar Jha (JDU), Srikanth Eknath Shinde (Shiv Sena), Shashi Tharur (Congress), Kinimoji Karunidhi (DMK). Group is scheduled to visit 32 countries with the European Union headquarters in Brussels.
